Ryan said he can stay for a short time until we find him another home. I wonder how long a "short time" is. This pooch probably has only a year or two left. He is antique. He can't see that well and ran into the sofa. I think a "short time" will get gradually longer until he's firmly attached to Ryan and then he can't say no. I firmly believe he was sent here to live out the remainder of his life.
I named him Stubby because his little stub of a tail looks so cute when it wags. Stubbs for short.

He looks like a 'bully/boxer mix to me too. I am beginning to wonder if Yogi might be placing these dogs ---1st Ree and now you!!! Who is next (not me--I am not allowed any more then the 2 I have!)----Are you next Cyg!?
I forgot what all breeds can have a black tongue! He looks like he may of been a handsome guy when he was younger and not starving---1st 2 pics aren't too bad.

It certainly does sound as if he's very old and probably doesn't have a lot of time left. It would be extremely hard to find him a home. Most people don't want to take on the costs associated with senior dogs especially knowing that their time with them will be short. If he gets on alright with your other fur kids, it would be an incredible act of mercy to just let him live out his last days with your family where he will be warm, fed and loved.

Ryan says we can't afford him, but I'm sure we can work something out. He certainly is a cuddlebug. And he likes Buster A LOT. I think he finds things with a stong scent and follows them around. I've been leading him around on a leash. If I don't, he runs into the couch.

What a special old boy. I do hope he has a few months of love and comfort with you and your family. You are amazing to take these dogs in. I can't imagine I would be able to take in another dog no matter what the circumstances. My husband's patience is stretched very thinly with the three we have now.

I don't think he is part chow. He has no undercoat at all. And he has extremely short fur. Boxer fur. I think he might be part american bulldog or pitbull.

I really hope that you can keep him. It is obvious that the old boy has been through some very hard times. He deserves to live out his remaining days in a place where he will get the love that he didn't get before. Poor old thing...

I talked to someone who owns boxers and they think he is purebred boxer. He just looks funny because he is skinny and has no teeth. He showed me a pic of one of his boxers that had no teeth and it does look the same. I guess a mouth would look different witout teeth.

I still think he's mixed with something though because his ears stand up and they aren't cropped. an uncropped boxer's ears don't stand up.
A few more pics of Stubbs.
He looks like a hyena when he eats.

He loves Buster and follows him everywhere unless I get up and then he follows me everywhere.

In the third picture there is what looks like a tag on the blue collar. Is there any info on the tag that would give you a clue as to who may have owned it?
I know here that all rabies, licence tags would have owners/vet info associated to it.
Maybe it's been lost for awhile and with the poor eye sight, that wouldn't have made it any easier on the poor old guy.
Love to Stubby.

Poor old soul...Have you checked with the local shelters to be sure that he just didn't wander off? At his age one would hope that there is someone out there absolutely frantic because their old friend has gone missing.

The tag was on Porter's collar from last year. The tags are hard to remove every year so I go out and buy new collars and keep the old ones in case I might need it. All it says is that Porter is registered to us.
He didn't have a collar when I first found him.
I ran and got one so I could hook him up to a leash and lead him to the house. He's definately not leash savy. But he's learning.

Poor thing. He looks like he's been through a lot. You have to love old dogs. <3 they def deserve a nice, laid back place to call home. I hope he's not sickly, just neglected and improves quickly with your tlc. It's sweet to know he likes Buster so much but who can resist Buster??
C/M, such a nice thought about Yogi.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

He sure looks friendly, and just plain happy to be with someone.
And yes Lange, I would agree, who could resist Buster.
Luna, you had mentioned that he had fleas, aren't you worried that the rest of your dogs will get them too, with Stubby being in the house?
I'd be abit worried about having him in the house so soon after finding him.
But then maybe I'm just being a worry wart?!

Well, I didn't find anything wrong with the doggie to be too concerned about. He didn't have any signs of rabies, parvo or anything that could be life-threatening. He doesn't have mange. He does have fleas. I took care of most of them though. He does have tapeworms. Ryan goes to the vet to pick up medication for that tomorrow morning. He does have a small case of doggie hemroids, but the vet said that it should clear up when we get rid of the worms and have him on a regular diet. She said to put a tiny amount of preperation H on it.
I brought him in because I couldn't very well leave the old guy out in the kennel. Especially when it is chilly and raining. He doesn't have much fur on his back so he was shivering. I figure that I can deal with any unforseen problem later if it arises. Getting him inside and warm and fed and deflead was the most important thing at the time.
