Normal for 1yr old dog to be INACTIVE?
Greetings,
I rescued a 1yr 1mo old dog 11 days ago. She was at the shelter for 7 months and prior to that is unknown (she came in as a stray). She was very shy and timid at first but has come out her shell a lot. I know she will need much more time to acclimate, but thus far she has shown no desire to play with toys (expect a stuffed animal her and there then looses desire quickly) or other dogs, and rather lounge on the couch with us than be active. She doesn't pull on a leash and at times, will walk behind me because she walks slow. Is this normal for a dog to be this mature and calm at such a young age? She is suspected to be a Border Collie mix as well which is even more strange.

It's just taking her awhile to come out of her shell and get adjusted..Just be patient and she'll come around.

That answers my question on your other post :-) Sorry - I called her a "he" not a "she".
My oldest dog, a rescue, is 13 and has never shown interest in toys. She loves people and even now is very active when we are out and about but toys just don't interest her. We have three dogs and a big variety of playthings but none attract her attention.
One thing I would say from your pics in your other thread - it may be the angle of the photo but she does look a little portly - not surprising if she has been in kennels for so long. As Ree says it is very early days she is still getting used to you. Once she has truly settled and lost some weight she may well be a totally different dog.

I dont think so, some dogs are calm. I have a min pin, 3 yrs that for the most part is content to stick close by, and curl up on your lap to sleep. He will run and give chase to our 8 yr old Terrier mix ( who never stop!) but he loses interest real fast. Toys, I have to take him to the store and try them out first and only use them once in awhile, he will lose interest fast. Likes things that squeak. The only dog he will play with is our Terrier, no others. Except he love to run our fence line barking at a Mastive on the other side. Ive seen other dogs and breeds that are the same way, and are puppys. And then there are those totaly out of control. My pin responds to my happy voice and Trainning classes that we go to. That keeps him active, try different things that you think your dog might enjoy, Im sure you will find something that will spark a chase or excitement.
