Default Close call - Grr I HATE snakes

Have been off for the last couple of weeks camping and having a ball (new dutchie pics and vids will be up soon)

On our way home tonight, we stopped off for a toilet stop and leg stretch, Graham was walking Dutchie on lead, and he went plowing through some long grass.....he let out an almighty scream and bolted to the car dragging Graham behind him on the lead. A local gent walking nearby with his dog rushed over and advised us he had never heard such a blood curdling noise from a dog, and had actually rushed over thinking a dog was being kicked or tortured. He advised that snakes are hidden everywhere in the park we stopped. So mad rush to the vet, with still a good hour to travel home I got us back in 30 mins (im sure I will end up with a speeding fine in the letter box in a few weeks but oh well)
Bloods taken tests through searching over dutchie all pointed to the fact that he did have a run in with a snake, but thankfully it appears the thickness of his fur prevented a severe or deep bite, and dramatically reduced the amount of venom that was injected into his body.......hes feeling a little sore and sorry for himself, but thankfully will be fine and around to see another day. (hopefully a million more too)
All i could think though on the car trip to the vet was that today was the 1 year anniversary of saying goodbye to Kato, it would have been devastating regardless if Dutchie was not so lucky, but on this date????

What a start to the New Year! So glad it is not worse. What a horrible coincidence though! Still, this year can only get better!

So glad you took Dutchie to the vet and that the gentleman was there to warn about the snakes. Maybe Kato was being a guardian angel and watching over things and made sure that gentleman was there to give the warning. I hate snakes too--Luckily none of you humans got bit! I know I will never get to see Australia but even if I could, I think I'd be afraid to go because of all the poisonous things there--mainly snakes. Sounds like a great place though--but minus the snakes!!

Thank God for the man. It's the little things in life that can save us sometimes. I'm glad Dutchie made it. It would have definitely been an even more sorrowful day to lose him on. I like C/M's interpretation of the meaning behind it.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Wow, glad to hear everyone is ok. I hate snakes, I cant even look at them in picture books, and im a work in the landscapes for a living. You should hear me scream and run when the harmless ones slither by. We have Rattlers here that sound a alarm it you get close, they rattle their tail. Do you know what kind of snake it might have been? So glad your Angel was watching over you.

Most likely a tiger snake, they are the most commonly seen around these parts. Horrible things......must agree with Lara's mom.....Devils spawn
