Mr. Sweaters
Mr. Sweaters got skunked. I did the skunk treatment and although the majority of the smell is gone, there is still a slight skunk aroma. I've been calling him Pepe Le Pew for the time being.

Yeuck - so glad skunks are not a feature of our wildlife here in the UK!

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I don't know which 'skunk treatment' you did but here are a few dif. things to try if it happens again--(and let's hope it doesn't!)--> Skunks/Porcupines

I used the home-made skunk treatment with peroxide and baking soda and dawn dish liquid. I mixed a little cinnamon in so he smelled good.

According to Richard Gere you should use tomato sauce. They did that on the Hachi movie

He probably wanted to bark at shadows of squirrel farts.
I seriously think he wanted to see if that skunk was still there.

When I was about 7 and my sister about 6 when we lived on a farm and had to go get the cows for milking one day---She (My sister) got sprayed. She was very unpopular to say the least. I think my mother gave her a bath in tomato juice and it didn't help a whole lot. Lol, it was on a Saturday--the night we usually went to the movies. I can't remember if we both had to stay home or just her!

At least she didn't have to sleep outside in the pen. LOL! I've never smelled a skunking up close but I've heard enough to be very afraid.

Sweaters is sleeping out on his own volition. He howls all night if try to make him stay in. It is much better to let him sleep out there so the rest of the house can get some sleep. He stays quiet outside at night. He comes in during the day though. As soon as it hits dark, most nights he wants back out.

I had a encounter with a skunk once. We were camping along the Oregon coast when my boys were young. We had pulled into the camp ground in the dark and my husband and the boys went to pay for our sight and get fire wood. I decided to read the paper at the picnic table with a flash light and wait for them to return. Keep in mind its pitch black, and im standing on the bench reading when I hear what sounds like a dog sniffing under my feet. I thought oh my some ones dog is in our camp. I shine the light down between my feet to see a black and white big eyed skunk looking just as surprised as I was. I screamed and ran to the motor home. I was lucky the skunk ran too and didnt spray.

I totally understand. I just meant if it were me I'd probably ban the 'smelly one' outside or at least find a place that it would be safe and away, a pen outdoors for a person was just me exaggerating & trying to be funny. fail!
