This one: No person is allowed to sleep in a dog kennel---I picture a drunken husband being thrown out of the house after a night on the town and that is where he decides to sleep it off. You know the saying about being in the dog house now----Wonder if there is a connection here as to how this saying got started, lol. Maybe it was a neighbor's dog kennel too if the guy didn't have one. Lol, do you think the dog made the complaint!

that's exactly how the saying got started: hubbie comes home to find the door locked and barred, if there's no barn, the only place to get shelter would be the dog's kennel (the dog having usually been brought indoors for the purpose).

Someone wanted to have a pass two or three times a day in my city. I wonder how that works with a chihuahua when a full blown snowstorm is going on. So I was quite surprised to see it is a law in Turin.
How on earth do they enforce it?

Sorry, I meant they wanted to have a bylaw passed requiring dog owners walk their dogs two or three times a day. Mind went ahead of my fingers.

i always blame autocorrect- too bad the autocorrect's in my hands.
it's a "law" somewhere requiring dogs be walked two to three times a day!?
i agree: how in hell could that even be enforced? you know what - that would be a "nuisance" law, like spitting on the sidewalk - one of those conveniences they can use to get their hooks into you. it's not enforced until the neighbours or the landlord complain about your dog.

Honolulu, HI
Within the limits of any public park, it is unlawful to annoy the birds.

In the past I had no problem with allowing a dog of mine to chase ducks in the park. I always figured the ducks would be faster than the dog either in the water or by just flying away if on the ground... I never personally had any accidents involving the ducks and all my dogs learned how to swim with very little effort on my part. (LOL!)
I do NOT allow my current girls to mess with any ducks at the park. Never will. Not since a friend of mine here told me how much those ducks actually 'cost'...
When this friends dog actually 'caught' one of the park ducks one day he was quickly reported. This guy never actually thought the dog could be fast enough to catch it but that particular time it did... That incident cost him a $1000.00 fine. He was not allowed to keep the duck either.

What if you have a breed like mine where they would prefer to be laying like rugs than going for a walk? What if your pet is injured and you can't walk it? That is an unenforcable law that is being made just to make someone look good or pave the way to make another similar law?
Whoever makes that law can personally come to my house and try to walk my dogs. I'll laugh when they don't budge.

Those same people need to come to my house and try to take the girls for a walk when it is raining. My girls would go out there and do their potty but as soon as they were finished they would drag those people back to the door so they could get back inside where it is comfy and warm!

i have the opposite problem - dandy would walk all damn day and night if he could.
when we lived in the bush and i didn't know about "brain games" being more exhausting for border collies than mere physical exercise, i walked him 10k/day minimum. sometimes 12, sometimes 18.
i'm not exaggerating - i used to plot my route out on sparkpeople. usually we went from my house at the intersection of milburn road (used to be called Old Irondale Road) and the burnt river up to south lake road and back (10k return). sometimes we went past south lake road up to ingoldsby road or up milburn road to the dump (12k return each route) and occasionally we walked all the way to minden (24k return).
i should mention i was pushing a 50lb kid in a stroller at the time.
we'd get home, i'd be exhausted, and dandy'd be ready for another round.
teaching him tricks, now - that's the ticket: 10min of training and he sleeps for an hour.

Well, fortunately, I doubt very much that it is even being considered by the city. I was reading the information the city published about public consultations over a new comprehensive animal control bylaw. That was suggested by a member of the public.

you know the drill: put all kinds of puffery and filler in the proposed law so you can graciously give way on this point, that point, and the other and nobody notices the stuff that actually does get passed bec by then, they're fed up and want to go home.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

In the town where I used to live, it was illegal to allow your dog to pee on a parking meter and the town didn't have any parking meters. So it was a really retarded law.
