chow chow urinating on my bed and other items in the house.
Someone, anyone, I need some advice. I have an 11 year old Chow chow, we've had him since he was a pup and everytime we leave, I mean, even to go for an outing to the store, he will get on our bed, our childs bed, or the couch and pee! Our children are 5 and 7, so its not like its a new situation. Any suggestions of what to do. He's too old to put in the basement, becasause he has a hard time making it up and down the stairs. We put him in the computer room for about 2 hours while we shopped and when we came home, he had scratched up the rug and peed on the floor! HELP!!! :x

Your best bet is to get a large kennel for your chow chow and put him in there.....he won't make in his own bed. Other than that, I can't think of anything.

Hello,
Your dog seems like he is upset with you guys for leaving him alone. You should try to get him a crate to go in while you leave. My dog went pee on my pillow one time when I left him or even made him mad and didnt know it. Well I came home and saw the pee pee on my bed and told him that it was bad, he knew it was bad. He must have been mad.
Try giving him toys and bones to chew on, so he won't chew or scratch your cabinets. How I was some help to you.

Do you have a Kong? If not, you can purchase one inexpensively at Target stores or other pet stores. You fill it with broken up treats and it keeps the dog busy for a very long time. My dogs love when I stuff it full of dog treats, then smather on some peanut butter and freeze it. It takes them so long to get the treats out that I'm usually back before they're done. They also love the Kong Stuff-a-Ball. It moves more like a ball, but the same idea - stuff with treats.

Your dog is suffering from seperation anxioty, and a dominace issue. He doesn't think you should leave with out him because he can't control you when you are not home. Crateing him could make it worse with out training him properly first. If he is kennel trained then great, if not seek the help of a professional dog trainer in your area. Please, don't just cram him in a kennel and leave. You also need to change your lifestyle with him, for some reason he thinks that he is Alpha and that keeping track of the family is his responsability. He is peeing on beds to mark territory, shut all the bedroom doors before leaving the house and so that at least he isn't getting in there. Take the time to work on him with the kennel, and his alpha issues. Make sure there is not any other issues medical wise with your vet, take him in for a full phisical. Good Luck! FFL
P.S. dogs don't just pee on your bed because they are "mad" at you. There is always a workable reason that can be dealt with through behavior modifation.
