My mother use to raise poodles and I only went once during a taiol docking and it was horrible they cry and bleed, so what if they don't remeber it when they grow up its still horrible. Thats like saying hey lets cut our 2 day old finger off, it only hurts for a bit and they won't remeber it... Its BARBARIC!!! and I hope it is illegal soon! As well as ear cropping and declawing cats...

I use Rubber bands on the tails. No screaming and they don't have to be taken away from the mother.
As far as barbearic how many people have a brother, boyfriend, husband that was circomsized when they were young.I bet that hurt.Yet we still do it .

Try putting a rubber band on your finger very tight and see how long it takes before it starts to hurt. I have seen many puppies docked in this manner, mainly dobes and boxers that have been left with scarred stumps that have caused them problems for the rest of their lives.
I don't think that how it's done is the issure it's more the reason why.
Crufts this year had quite a few top winners that had tails incl the Airdale CC winner and the Australian Silky Best of Breed winner, I have also seen Rotts with tails winning high awards. In the past a lot of the dogs that were left undocked were from pet breeders only so a lot of the dogs were not of show quality but now more and more imports are coming in from countries where docking is no longer allowed and these dogs of high quality are winning.

Not here we have 1 AKC CH with a tail and some people (the American Rottweiler club) is trying to change the standard to DQ the tail.
So as it stands we still dock.
I have been docking my own dogs tails for years and never seen a dog with a problem.
Just because some don't do it does not make it wrong.
This is always going to be a hot issue.I show in AKC so there for I dock. When they ban it (and I'm sure they will ) I will no longer do it,but until then I will.

Apparently your not up to date on todays health issues, we circumsize boys for heath reasons, its cleaner, and they get less infection.. Boys can get yeast infections, bladder and kidney infections and a ton of others by not properly knowing how or just not caring for there private areas... We dock tails, delcaw cats and crop ears for pure SELFISHNESS on our parts. We want the animals to look or act a certian way so we torture them... I just personally would'nt put an animal through it..

I'm sorry but the fact that this practice still goes on, either of them in fact, is no justification for continuing to do it. Some may not like the term 'barbaric' but I can't think of one that suits better for cutting a piece off a healthy animal.

I really don't think there is any physical reason that a tail should be docked these days, and most of them are done under kennel club guidelines and standards.
Despite what breeders say, if the Kennels Clubs altered the standards then tail docking would stop immediately.
