Default what kind of shampoo for dry coat?

I've noticed latley when I my dog that his coat is really dry and brittle. It's breaking in some areas. His fur is long and on his back it's breaking so it's getting shorter. He needs a bath and I was wondering what kind of shampoo you guys would recommend me to use?

What kind of dog do you have and do you bath him regularly on a normal basis?

It could be a load of things that are causing the problem. Things like bathing him too often, or it could be a dietary thing.

Trying to put things right is difficult if you don't know the cause.

My puppy has dry skin, and I was wondering if there was a specific brand or kind of shampoo to get to help with the dryness. He had fleas, and scratched alot, that's the reason for the dry skin and patchy fur according to our vet. We've gotten rid of the fleas, through dips and a collar, but his skin and fur haven't improved and it's been 3 weeks now.

We don't over bathe him, he gets a bath once a month. My daughter wants to do it every week, but I don't let her because I know it will dry out his skin. Maybe once a month is too often and that's why his skin isn't improving? I don't know, I know we've only given him a bath once since the dipping, and that was on his usual bath day.

You could always try not bathing him and see what happens?

Bathing takes out the natural oils, so I would imagine after his problem with the fleas that his skin is still repairing itself and if you like needs, 'conditioning,' It's his own oils that will do that better than anything and washing something simply dries it out more.

I have found using shea butter, oatmeal and tee tree oil products have worked well with my 11 yr. old Lab/Dobe mix-Midnight. She has had really dry, itchy skin for a couple of years now. I have to take care of her skin and hair just like mine. She is my sunshine.Dog grooming products

It seems like that that oatmeal shampoo is supposed to be good for dandruff and dry skin.

I would recomend getting an oatmeal shampoo. Also, try feeding your dog eggs or something like that. It's good for the skin/coat.
