Default dog killed at the groomer

found here

Pet injuries at the groomers

I am surprised it does not mention anything about a pending lawsuit.

There aren't many groomers around here. There was one, a few years ago, and I know she only took in one dog at a time, and didn't overbook herself. I don't know if she's still in business, though.

No lawsuits? That's weird. If my dog gets killed by a groomer, I will become hysterical. I'll definitely sue them!

Gosh, that article scared me. Next time, I am going to watch my pet while he is being groomed. I don’t want to take chances.

Oh my lord... what kind of groomer doesn't even call the owners and just waits till they get there to hand over their deceased pet?!?! that is outrageous! I would be livid and defiantly suing someone.

OMG, that is horrible. They would definitely have a lawsuit from me.

I am a groomer and have been doing so for many years. Those groomers in that article were negligent and unprofessional at best. Any groomer who is up to speed on equipment would NOT use a dryer that has a heating element in it. I recently purchased new dryers that cost me $400 each that are the ONLY safe cage dryers around. if a groomer can't hand-dry a dog and it must be cage dried, then a well-maintained no-heat dryer with a 15 minute shut off timer must be used. There are some dogs that get too stressed with a hand dryer, especially if they weren't trained well to accept it or they are frightened. As for my customers watching me groom their dogs, I don't mind but I also don't advocate it. I go over this with all of my customers, explaining that for the most part the dog won't hold still if the owner is there which increases it's risk of being injured by very sharp scissors. They also work themselves into a furry if the owners are there, wanting to be with mom/dad instead of getting groomed. None of my customers have a problem with that. There are a few that do stay, but I tell them if the dog acts up too much they have a choice of leaving so I can finish the job or taking the dog home un-groomed. Most don't mind leaving, as I assure them they are in good hands. As far as leaving a dog on a table unattended: ABSOLUTELY NOT. That is just a stupid accident waiting to happen. If a groomer can't be with the dog it goes on the floor with a leash or in a kennel. and no dog should be running free around others. In my salon it is my policy that dogs are either leashed or caged. No exceptions. If a groomer won't bother taking these precautions, then they do not need to groom. The dog's best interest should be the number one concern. Even if that means a dog is ill or has a medical problem...then the dog should be properly evaluated and sent home until the vet clears it for grooming. I just don't understand the groomers who take these risks. it's very unprofessional in my eyes, and I wouldn't want anyone to take risks with my own dogs.

you go Helly!!!! BTW, I used to talk to you a lot on the groomer to groomer board a few years ago. kind of lost track of everyone.

What Helly said is true, there are many safe uses for a heated dryer, but I personally don't use one. Everyone has their own thing. I think dog owners are like most people in the world and forget to tell about all the good we do...find skin/ear infections, allergies, injuries the pet recieved at home, etc and we let the owners know about these issues for thier pets sake. I mean, c'mon, how many vets see their patients on a monthly to every-other-month basis like we do? we know them better than the vets most of the time, and the majority of my customers will call me when something is wrong with the dog to see if it should go to the vet or if they are just being paranoid. Helly can probably attest to that, right?

Nice seeing you here Helly. Take care.
