why don't you dress the dog a muzzle rather than give her a sedative?

Yes, there are mild sedatives that can be given, but you would need a vet check, and recommendation. Some dogs just do not like to be groomed by a stranger, and having a little pill sometimes works wonders. But, again, vet should verify if it is okay.

You don't say how old she is.If still puppy or young dog then make it a part of daily play, make sure you use the "No" command if she tries to bite (they usually go for the brush not you). If older then the pattern is set but can be broken with patience and effort. Introduce her to the brush, let her sniff it and become familiar with it but don't let her mouth it or play with it. Gentlu stroke her and reassure, then use the same gentle stroking motion with the brush (just a couple of strokes to start with). if she doesn't react then reward verbally and stroke. Build up over a number of days so that se will accept you brushing her. At other times stroke her by running your fingers through her coat.If she reacts and tries to bite (you or the brush) use No (but not angrily and don't pull your hand away as this encourages them)let her see the brush and sniff then try again. If she lets you get on with it then reward and stroke - build up to full grooming.Remember be gentle, slow and reassuring. If you still have problems see an animal behaviourist.Grooming, checking ears and teeth should be an established part of your puppy training stage. We can check and fiddle with any part of our three dogs without them being worried. (sort of thing your vet will appreciate when they come to examine your dog).Good luck.
