Default What are the best deshedding tools for grooming dogs.?

Okay, I admit it, I can get into the propaganda thing! Brutus, my newfie, can produce a houseful of shedding in one minute. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration. I've seen this furminator things. They cost a lot. My last furbaby (lab/shep/? mix) didn't have a double coat so he only needed occassional grooming. (Although we pretty much did it daily because he who held the brush is was loved.) Brutus needs daily grooming. Sometimes, twice daily. Can anyone recommend good grooming tools to reduce the hair. If this furminator really a good thing? What about other tools? The name "furminator" puts in mind a bald dog shivering the cold and having all fur terminated on his body. gasp.

There are several good grooming objects at the pet store. One looks like a small rake type. Its for dogs with double coats or thick coats. Don't go for those on tv gadgets, they dont work. Go to your local pet store and look for the ones for the particular dogs coat that you have. My shepherd sheds like crazy and thats what I use on her. But I can't recall the name of it. sorry.

Buy yourself a good metal comb and brush him as often as you can. You can also take him to a groomer and ask for the SHED-LESS service. They basically intensely brush him for several hours, bathe him and brush him in the tub, dry him and brush him again. If done right it takes away 75% of your dogs shedding for 3 months or so. Or EuKanuba sells a dog food that decreases the amount of shedding your dog does. And buy a shampoo that decreases the amount your dog sheds. all those things together should really decrease the shedding. GL.
