Default Do a dog have to have his shots in order for me to take him to get groomed?

I have a Toy Poodle. He needs to get groomed ASAP. I have no time or patience to do it myself. Do he have to have shots prior to taking him to the groomer?

Yes. Most groomers will require they are up-to-date shots since a lot of illnesses are airborne. Call your groomer to be sure. And honestly, for the health of your dog, those shots should always be up-to-date.

Call your local groomers for that answer. Some ask, some don't. It also depends on your own state regulations and requirements for the groomers, but your groomer will know for sure. Be sure to be clear in your communications with your groomer and understand that they are not in the business to torture dogs, so if your dog is in bad condition, be prepared to let the groomer do what they need for the dog and start fresh. Poodles should be groomed regularly, at least every 6 weeks for best results unless you keep them really short, then you can go a bit longer.

My groomer did not require any shot records but now that I think about it she probably should have.

If you care anything about your animal, you will get his shots, most real grooming places require shots, as there are other animals that could get bit by accident, or your animal could have something undetected by you and it be highly contagious. My groomer requires shots, and tags, because of parvo, rabbies, ect. Do you and your pet a favor take the time to attend to your animal. If you have children didn't they require shots, to even start kindergarden.............If you don't have time to get groomed, how can you have the time for the animal. Think of this what if your dog bites the groomer, proof of shots will be required, because otherwise, the dog will have to be quarantined, reported, and the groomer would have to go through several series of shots cuz you can't prove you had its shots...................Think of your animal, and groomer>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

most places will require you to have their shots prior to taking them in,, its not just for other dogs but also for the protection of your dog also, they can pick up things like kennel cough and other things in places where other dogs go. take him to the vet first have shots done at least 48hr before you take him to get groomed. make sure you get boardatella vacc.

Most likely they will want to see proof of the rabies vaccination and that's it. But having your dog around all those other dogs, I would want him to have parvo, and bordatella(kennel cough) vacc.

Depends on the policy of the shop/clinic. Keep in mind that if your groomer did not require vaccines from your dog then they did not require them from other dogs either. Viruses such as parvo can survive even healthy sanitation, and kennel cough is airborne. Respectfully, your toy poodle should have started visiting the groomer around the time it got its last set of puppy shots. Poodles have to be groomed for the rest of their lives, and they have to learn to be groomed. Introduction to the groomer, techniques, and the atmosphere in a gradual manner makes life so much easier for all parties involved!Respectfully also, if I only has $50 to spend on my poodle and had to choose between vaccines and a haircut, I'd probably vaccinate first, do the best I could with getting the dog cleaned up until some more $$ came my way. As a groomer, I know the dog will be more difficult to groom with more dirt and coat and who-knows-what-else, but in the long run safer, especially if there is no vaccine history.
