Dog grooming should be done when they are a puppy, so they get use to the idea. I suggest you take your dog for an hour walk the right way. You in front and the leader. By the time you get back your dog will be worn out and might be more receptive to your touch. If not, do it in baby steps. Pretend to groom, go through the motions without touch. Then little by little start to comb and for a few seconds. Increase the time and in a while you can matter the grooming of your dog.
Good luck.

that will surely be a big problem since it will make the task harder and chances of cutting your pet is higher... Like what the other member already told... grooming should start when they are still puppies so they will get used to the idea of grooming.

just dont give up
i recently rescued a dog which went mental every time she saw the brush going near her, but if you literally brush your dog every day whilst holding onto the collar so that every time your dog has a tantrum your keep hold untill they are calm and then you continue your dog will get it in the end, always give them a treat once you have finnished and they will realise that the shorter the time the hair brush takes the quicker they will get to the treat.
not ever giving up untill you are finnished will make the dog realise that there is no point to playing up anyway because they will be groomed regardless.
my dog was being groomed with ease within two weeks.
good luck
x

You may consider toughing it out at first and then rewarding the dog with a treat when they are calm. Do this a few times and sooner or later (hopefully sooner) the dog will realize that when he's calm and goes with it, he might get rewarded. Then it's just a matter of wheening him off the treats so that he'll anticipate a treat even when there isn't one there. At this point, he's already used to just DEALING WITH IT.

Default My suggestion for home bathing...

...is to use a Booster Bath, I have had one for some time and it really is an impression invention in dogwashing. I have recommended it to all of the dog owners I know; I am a very strong promoter of dog hygiene. This bathtub is designed especially for dogs, has a built in leash & collar restraint to help keep them in the tub, and all of the dirty bathwater drains out the back through a drainage hose. The company's website is www.BoosterBath.com.

It may help for starters if you have somone to help you out, somone who the dog trusts and responds well too. Take it a little at the time, with somone holding treats or a favorite toy, distracting the dog from what you are doing. Keep it short, keep the dog interested, keep it fun. Once he/ she starts becomming a little ratty, stop right there. come back to it again later, begin again, making the duration longer and longer each time. If you remain calm and positive, your dog may eventually get the idea that grooming and brushing can actually be a bit of fun, and a great way to get some positive attention.
