Find the Source It would be a good idea to go over your dog and find the source of the smell: Check and i mean smell...
- under the tail... if thats the strongest smelling point but theres no poopie and it has kind of a "hormone" like smell get someone to express the anal glands. Its pretty grose to do yourself and if you don't know what your doing you could hurt them.
-check the boy or girl parts.. if theres extra hair there then that can collect pee and other smelly stuff. You may need to either thuroughly wash or shave those areas to keep yukie stuff from building up.
-check the dogs back, is it the coat in general that smells?
-Check the feet too they may need cleaning or clipping between the pads
-Check the ears, bad ears can smell really strong, and may need vet attention if its some kind of infection or allergies
-check the corners of their mouth... all sorts of goodies can be hiding in the fur by their mouth...
- Does he have bad breath??? do his teeth need to be cleaned? or has he been eating something foul??
-and check the area below his eye's, if they tear alot then that area can stay moist... leading to yeast and other smelly things growing in there... If thats where the smell is coming from you can comb out any chunkies and wash it with a warm wet cloth and gentally dry it, it may need to be done daily, or you can ask a groomer for a shaved or clean face.. a different look for a shih tzu but it might be an option if cleaning isn't and it can look pretty cute when done right. :-D |
