I agree sometimes they are not only bath too little but if it is long haired it must be brushed frequently. People believe some breeds don't shed. well maybe not so much on their sofa, but it mats, matting can be very detrimental to the dog's skin. They can get sores, irritation and I even once I groomed a dog that had maggots around it's neck. EWWWWWW
I use eye drops before bath, and after. I always hold my hand right over the face and spray backwarwards first to get the hair on top rinsed and carefully do the rest of the face. Still useing my hand as protection, then a good safe gentle rinse. Then rinse body. My dogs are short haired and a hunting breed. I have horses too, and they love to go run the fields, and somehow get into the fence where the horses, so yep they come back smelling something awefull. So I use groomers goop. It helps get the green stains off of them....lol And don't forget to use a good ear cleaning solution and do ears too. When I am preparing for a show I use a product that is formulted to brighten and whiten on white and dark colored dogs. Workes for me, since I have duo colored dogs....lol I don't know if I can mention the name on forum so send me a PM and and I will share. I also use a no rinse shampoo to take off that small stain quick.

Stay away from the cheap shampoo's at the grocery store... There is a reason they are so cheap... I have seen dogs end up with huge medical bills from cheap shampoos. I actually used to groom a dog that had to have an eye removed because of the Hartz shampoo. A little bit got in it's eye, the owner flushed it right away, but it was just enough to cause sever corneal scaring.. So just be careful.. That's why it's best to use a rag when washing a dogs face, you can't ever be to careful...
It works also, to dilute shampoo when you use it... a ratio of 16 to 1. If you buy it in the store.. If you buy a concentrate from a distributor than it needs to be diluted more than that.. Up to 32 to 1...
I wouldn't bathe a dog more than once a week. |
