I understand what your going thorough, I have to deal with these kind of dogs everyday for a living. Firstly, don't fill the sink up with water and try to submerse your dog in it, instead have it empty with no plug and buy (if you don't already have one) one of those child shower hose heads that attaches to your tap and the water comes out like a shower head (do you get what I mean :| lol) Have all your shampoos and towels at the ready so you don't have to run around fetching everything too, dogs can feel you getting stressed and will do the same. Have your water warm and I like to wet the head first as the dog usually calms down once the head is wet. Make sure the pressue isn't too hard and it might be an idea to start with a low pressure. Don't always expect results the first time round but they should soon get used to it. Do one at a time, leaving the other three in a room, and talk to your dog, one on one, reassuring him, massaging shampoo gently into his coat. There are some great aromatherapy shampoos that smell lovely and relaxing. Only a few dogs object to the actual bathing process, as most just don't like GETTING wet (hence wetting the head first as they'll calm down once they realise "well, I'm already wet..") or the high pressure from your tap or hose. Take it slow and gentle and they'll soon learn it can be enjoyable. Good Luck! |
