Baby powder

I recently read somewhere, don't remember where, that you can put baby powder on your dog to help in between baths. Anybody know if this is safe? It said the corn starch, not talc kind and to put it on and about five minutes later thoroughly comb out the dog. I don't mind doggie smell but Tony is not a big fan of it so this would keep Gunnar smelling clean since he is only professionally groomed about twice a year when his coat needs to be blown out.
