Default Brown or Black?

I've been thinking about trying one of those color enhancing shampoos on Sarama. As you can see from my avatar, she's brindle . . .should I use the stuff for black dogs or for brown dogs? Also, does it work, and is it safe?

Either one would be fine. Color enhancing shampoos don't contain any dye. They just remove oxidation (yellowing or fading) and optical brighteners. And they're as safe as any shampoo.

I use black coat shampoos on parti-colored dogs (black & white) all the time. I even use it on totally white dogs. It makes them bright, with no hint of yellowing, and doesn't dry out the coat as much as whitening shampoos.

Go for shampoo that blends with the color of your dog's fur.

Choose shampoo that suits your dog... as vetgroomer said in previous post color enhancing shampoos doesn't contain dye...so guess nothing to worry about it...

Our scalp and their skin are completely different and depending on how many times a month you shampoo your dog, asking for your dog's skin to become dry and possibly causing skin allergies and itching problems. Make sure that you consult your vet first. Goodluck!

I think there's a little confusion here. The color enhancing shampoos are dog shampoos, and most of them are high quality shampoos. Used properly they aren't going to dry out the skin or coat, and shouldn't cause any problems unless the dog has an allergy to one of the ingredients.

And honestly, there isn't that much difference between human and dog skin. The major one being we have lots of sweat glands and dogs don't. That pH thing people like to toss around isn't that big of an issue when it comes to shampoo or conditioner.
