Also, keep in mind that some prep work can be very beneficial for bathing. Use an air powder like bio groom in the dog's ears before bathing to keep the ear canal dry - that will prevent fungus from growing inside your dog's ears. Also use a mineral oil eye protectant like Paralube in your dogs eyes to protect your dog's eyes from soap irritation. For long coated breeds do not scrub the coat as that will cause the coat to matt up. Simply slide your hands over the hair and worked the soap in that way.
Never use hot water or a hot hair dryer on your dog - this will burn out the coat and coud also burn your dog's skin.
