Need Help With Nail Trimming
I do all of the grooming for my dog, myself (ears, teeth, bath, brushing, etc.), but she won't let me clip her nails. She pulls her feet out of my hand and bites my hand, not hard, but to the point where it's impossible. I even tried having someone hold her down for me, but she wiggles her way out.
Any suggestions?

has anyone tried the new "Peticure Nail Trimmer"?
I have been thinking about getting this. I have seen it on the T.V. and really interested in finding out if anyone has tried it. My dog will let me trim her nails but I would like to trim them shorter. I don't think I trim them short enough because I don't want to hurt her but it looks like this Peticure Trimmer will go shorter without hurting.

My Toy Fox Terrier also will not let us trim her nails. She too will squirm, bite, etc. but when we take her to a pro she is fine-she'll let the "stranger" clip them- no problem. So she will let a stranger but not us. I was alo interested in the Peticure tool. Please post if anyone has tried it!
Thanks

As a former do groomer I would NOT recommend buying that thing they advertise on TV total CRAP. and I wold NOT recommend taking your dog to a professional because they become frustrated with high anxiety cases and cause more stress resulting in a worse time the next time. The best thing to do to start getting her/him used to her feet being touched is just playing with her feet and giving her tasty treats, just do this once or twice daily to get them used to it. if they struggle stop and let them calm down. be sure to spread their toes, just pretend you are giving them a foot massage while giving them treats. let them know that their isn't anything to worry about. Dogs feet are VERY ticklish and majority of the time they squirm because they haven't been socialized to their feet being touched and so this is something you will need to start with. Also consult with your vet about the situation, they would know best. If anything take your dog to the vet to get them clipped and not the groomers..
I hope this helped

dont force her when you want to clip her nails. Most dog will not allow you to even touch their paws... what i usually do with my dog is... i give her a belly rub or try to make her sleep on my lap (she's small) and gently slowly clip her nails while she's sleeping or while she's behave on my lap.

If it becomes a real problem, you may want to try something like "Happy Traveler" which is a supplement that calms pets during travel. Some people use it for dogs who get nervous during storms. "Happy Traveler" is the one I know of, but I'm sure there are others on the market as well. Its all natural, so you are not giving your dog something bad for them.

You can start by getting your dog used to being touched on his feet. That way, he will be comfortable and not be afraid of being touched on feet.. although, it is still best to let the professionals do the nail clipping to your dog. You might hit some of his flesh and cause for him to bleed.

As a dog groomer with over 30 years experience, I'd suggest taking the dog to a groomer and have them give it a try. It's not at all true that most groomers get frustrated and make the situation worse. Many, many pets will allow me to do their nails when they won't allow their owners to do it. Why? Because they don't know me, and I haven't taught them all they have to do is snap at me to get me to quit.
The Peticure isn't crap, either. I know a lot of groomers who use it and like it a great deal. But it's probably not going to be as easy to use as the commercials make it seem. And if nails are curled under they'll need to be clipped first, before you can finish the job with the Peticure.
I don't happen to have a Peticure, but I do use a grinder rather than clipping nails. Most dogs don't struggle nearly as much with a grinder, because it's a different sensation than they get with clipping. If I didn't already have a lot of experience grinding nails, I'd probably get the Peticure.

SOMEONE SHOULD NOT SAY SOMETHING "IS CRAP" IF THEY HAVEN'T TRIED IT.
VETGROOMER, WHAT KIND OF GRINDER DO YOU USE? sOMETHING LIKE A DREMMEL TOOL OR SOMETHING OUT OF A MANICURE KIT?

Don't force your dogs when doing this.. Maybe you can give them food or toys to play while you are trimming their nails? But giving them toys maybe a disturbance. Try to trim its nails while he's sleeping..
