| | Guest | groomer killed my dog ! took my 7 yr old poodle, Little Bear, and my 9 year old Mocha to the groomer on Saturday! somehow the groomer managed to lose my baby during the day and didn't bother calling me till 5pm to let me know they had lost him. I had called already once to check on what was taking so long and they just said they weren't ready, that was at 4pm....then at 5 they called to say"We need your help, we lost Little bear and need your help to find him! I immediatly got in the car with my husband and sped toward the area they told me they last saw him. 7 minutes later i called and told them i was in the area and had they heard from whomever was out searching for him and they said he had been hit by a car aprox 2 miles away. I knew then he had been gone longer than a few minutes and got to the location he had been hit moments later.
There he lay in the street and it was obvious he was gone. The owner of the salon was standing over him and was afraid to pick him up and said she was waiting on the vet. She had called the vet but not received a phone call back yet but just stood there . A passerby was there with her...he said the dog was alive for a while but had stopped moving and now was completely stiff. Then we took him to the vet but it was too late. We went back to the vet to pick up my other poodle.....we were in shock and so upset and angry. I am now waiting for their insurance adjuster to call us. I don't want this to ever happen again at this groomers! What should i expect from insurance? what should i do to make sure the groomer is justly checked into? should i contact BBB? Humane society? please ......adivse me soonest.
i'm soooooo upset. we had had him since he was just a pup !
I miss you little bear ! Love you always.

| | Guest | Yes I would contact the humane society, the BBB, and file a report with the attorney general in your state.
I am so sorry, this should of never happened, they should have control over the pets they are grooming, this is incompetence and animal abuse. | |

What it is is an unfortunate accident. When dealing with live animals, who have minds of their own, accidents can sometimes happen.
Without knowing exactly what happened, you cannot call it abuse or incompetence, although it is probably negligence. Someone wasn't paying attention at the wrong moment. A kennel wasn't properly closed. A door was opened. The dog escaped. Or an unauthorized person took the dog when no one was watching, and it escaped.
I'm sorry for your loss, but this is not a case for the Humane Society, State's Attorney General, or any other legal entity. You can file a complaint with the BBB. You can contact an attorney for advice on legal recourse, such as a law suite. The salon's insurance company will offer to compensate you for your loss, but you'll probably be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement, stating you will not discuss the case with anyone.
There's a very good chance this will never happen again at that salon, even if you do nothing. The vast majority of groomers love dogs just as much as you do. An accident like this is just as devastating to them as it is to the owner. We don't become groomers so that we can abuse, lose, or kill someone's dog.

That's very bad. The personnel of the shop is to blame for the loss of your dog. They should have take care of your dog very carefully.

I hate to hear stories like this. My heart goes out to you. I lost a dog when I was young because he was ran over.
The number one fear of my wife and I when it comes to dropping our dogs off at the vet/groomer is what happened in this case. You need to contact the appropriate authorities in your county and state so that they know what happened and to be on the look out for this location.
I hope your pain eases as best it can until you find another puppy to love.
Thanks for sharing your story.

Sorry to hear about your dog..
If I were you, I would call immediately the humane society, BBB..
It's not really an accident that really got your dog killed,
The groomer didn't took care of your precious dog..
Try to contact local authorities for assistance..

I used to be a groomer for 2 years. I agree it is the groomer's fault. How did the dog get out? I had kennels the dogs were put in while I was not working on them and I worked in a glass enclosed grooming area. All dogs were put in the kennels before exiting or entering grooming area. Obviously someone wasn't paying attention to your animal. I feel bad for you.

| | Guest | Here's to Little Bear & Rue...
My heart goes out to you and Little Bear!
We lost Rue the other day in the very same way!!
When I found your story - I couldn't believe it actually happened before.
I am so mad and sad, Rue was a beautiful Sable Pomerianian. He would have been 4 years old next month had the groomer any sense in her head!
She took off Rue's leash, and apparently ignored him, as he got through 2 open gates and a wide open front door of the grooming shop directly on to Main Street in Longmont Colorado! I still can't believe his life was cut so short! All of our animals live so long we end up having to put them down late in their lives. I'm having problems eating, sleeping, letting the other dogs do anything with out being TOTALLY PARANOID! I think I need thearapy! I'm still in shock and disbelief, I can't accept that he's gone...
My question...Have you taken any legal action against the groomer who killed Little Bear?
Thank you, and I am so very sorry!
Warmly,
Brinks
