Default blow out?

Hi every one, I am new here.

This is my first time with a large breed dog, she is a great pry mix.

I read some where that they have what is called a blow out when they shed.

Is there any of you go through this and what do you do?

I have used the undercoat rake on her, I even got shampoo from petco that is suppose to rid of the undercoat. It all has done good, but I am still having fur every where!

I haven't called a groomer, because I don't think she would do well with one.

Any input would be great!

Thanks

Yes, blowing coat is a normal thing... however there are things you can do to help. I have been a professional groomer for over 13 years and am happy to give you some advise.

DO:
> Brush your dog daily with a slicker brush, undercoat rake and greyhound comb.
> feed a high quality diet... bad dog food makes dogs shed 80% more then those fed a quality food.
> have your dog groomed every 6-8 weeks

DO NOT!:
> Use a shedding blad or Furminator (you will DISTROY your dogs coat)
> Use a groomer who uses cage dryers (that will only make shedding worse)
> NEVER EVER EVER have your dog shaved, clipped or given a summer cut or "puppy cut" you will harm your dogs skin, ruin his coat and it will interfear with his ability regulate his body temp.... in other words, it is very, very unhealthy. I do not know any groomers (except those who are inexperienced and/or uneducated) who will do this to a dog without a letter from a vet stating a valid medical reason.

I have 3 saint bernards. They blow thier coat twice a year. The only thing I use on them is a comb and an undercoat rake. When they are blowing their coats they can fill a whole garbage bag with fur. My dogs get brushed once a week due to the fact that it is time consuming to brush each one everyday. But when they are blowing their coats they get brushed daily so I don't get huge piles of fur on the furniature. Good luck on your pyr.

Thanks every one! I wasn't too sure.

I have been asking around to make sure. My family and I love this dog so much I want to make sure this is the norm for her.

Thanks again!

Default Blowing out

Hi there I've been grooming dogs for a few years now. Great Pyrenees's require a lot of regular grooming. The term " blow out" is how we remove the undercoat. Before the bath we use a high viscosity dryer that blows out the undercoat to the surface of the hair. Then we would give him two baths and dry him. When we dry him the undercoat fly's out usually by using a hand technique. Then we would slicker him and comb him out.You can buy a Slicker brush and split the hair starting at the feet and working your way up, really getting at the root of the hair. Be careful not to scratch the skin in sensitive areas though. I would suggest going to a groomer and seeing how often he needs to be done.

I really appreciate your help. Just one thing since you are a groomer. If you got a dog that was so wild. Would you groom it? She listens to me, but she is very hyper, a lot of energy. She bucks with the gentle leader, so bad that doesn't hold her. I have tried the collar with teeth (that is the only way I can explain it) and she snaps that. She goes crazy when you brush her. I have been doing it a little bit at a time and I got shampoo that releases the hair. But she does not like to be groomed. She may be different with someone else but I dunno.

Thanks again!

Thumbs up

Here's some info online you may find helpful regarding shedding;

Def. try fish oil. It's great for the skin/coat.

Use natural herbal shampoo.

It's not even warm yet and Buster has already started blowing his coat.

Luckily Lucky doesn't really shed much for she has really short hair. She does shed somewhat though.
