Default First time grooming - can't use razor

I have a corgi/cocker and need to groom him now that the hot weather is here. I used to take him to a groomer but am trying to save money. I bought a razor and went through the video, but I can't seem to do it right.I brushed his hair and then try it, but I still can't do it. So I cut it with scissors and of course it looks horrible - How can I learn to use the razor?

I am giving a link I think you should check out--It is a thread done earlier in this forum. There are 3 pages and I hope you will focus on the posts in it on not cutting the hair at all!!!
