Default Advice on Great pyrenees/ bernese coat care

We recently decided to get a great pyrenees/ bernese mountian dog mix puppy. I was wondering from experience how to best take care of their coats. How to reduced shedding( not saying I mind to much but any way to reduce is good right) how to keep it clean and beautiful, what shampoos to use and brushes etc. The one puppy from the litter before, we met coat was more like the bernese he was 5 months old.

My advice to you is to brush brush brush! LOL Honestly, a good brushing once a week or, to reduce shedding, more often. is all that's needed. Dont bath too often (not that you'll want to anyway... they're a little big for that! LOL)

Also Berners are prone to hot spots (itchy spots that they continually lick or scratch until infected) so watch closely for them, with all that fur, they can be hard to spot until they're in bad shape. maybe do the research about hot spots ahead of time, and make sure you have the products you may want to use chosen, so all you gotta do if the pup gets one, is run out and get it.

I know you are looking for experience--which I don't have but you might find some info in these sites. I just used the Bernese to search but the Pyrenees has the same kind of coat.

I know nothing about this site--Just what I see! Is this a good deal? Dog Grooming Made Easy: Secrets of Expert Dog Groomers

thanx guys!! . I found this thing online called a furminator but I have heard mixed reviews about using it on these types of breeds. I was hoping someone with personal experience would tell me what they use.

Arrow Will This Help?

There are 4 pages of discussion in this forum a while back on this item. Here is the link to it: Furminator

If you go to top of page(s) in this forum--Find the blue strip across the page with all the white words in it--Find search and click on it--Put furminator in search box. Leave the selection as threads---You will find a list of threads on grooming and at least another one titled Furminators--click on it and after that --Go back to find more info on grooming/furminators. I didn't check them out--In a hurry--Time to feed my dogs! Sounds like there should be a lot of info there though!

I read them all right after I wrote that haha. Still didn't help all mixed reviews and no body said anything about pyrenees or bernese.
