Grooming Tips--Tangles and Mats, Shiny Coat
BRUSHING AND COMBING
Alberto V05 Conditioning Hairdressing---To detangle and shine a dog's coat (and tame any static electricity), comb in a small amount of the hairdressing . (Don't worry if your pet licks it's fur; This hairdressing is natural and nontoxic.
Before brushing a longhaired dog or cat, sprinkle baby powder into the coat, rub it in, and then brush it off immediately. The talcum powder helps the brush glide through the hairs and prevents matting.
And you can untangle mats that are already there by dusting the mats with the baby powder. Work the mat apart with your fingers until you can run a comb through the hair. The talcum powder makes the hair glide free from the mat.
Another solution to mats: Spray the affected area with Johnson's No More Tangles, try to work the knotted hair free with your fingers, and then comb. Formulated for babies and toddlers, Johnson's No More Tangles is safe to use on your pet. You can use cornstarch instead of the Johnson's No More Tangles using the same technique. The cornstarch makes the hair glide free from the mat. Add more cornstarch as needed.
Rub a few drops of Lubriderm moisturizing lotion into any unmanageable snarl. Lubriderm contains lanolin, the fatty substance found on sheep's wool, which will help free the tangled hairs from the mat.
For a Shiny Coat
To give your dog or cat a shiny coat, mix 3 ounces of white vinegar and 12 ounces of water in a 16 ounce trigger-spray bottle and mist the solution on your dog.
