 I think the key traits in dog groomers should be their LOVE of animals, RESPECT for animals and their KNOWLEDGE of animals. As a groomer myself, I think these are the three most important things to consider whether you're looking for a dog groomer or thinking about becoming -or- working w/ a dog groomer!

I would say that being a dog lover is a obvious prerequisite!

Knowledge of what a dog likes and does not like is also useful, especially i you can get the information off the dogs owners to make the experience comfortable for the dog.

Yeah I must agree as certain dogs like things & some dont, so getting info from the owner would be a smart thing to do.

I dont need a groomer for my dog as she doesnt really have curly hair or anything, and I bath her cos she loves it.

Sometimes I'll have a shower and leave the door open, then the next minute the dog is in the shower with me lol

Shes a funny lil thing!

My dog loves the groomer. When ever i say her name he goes nuts. He can't wait to get out of the van to get inside. He always looks so handsome when he is done. The fact that he loves to go is good enough for me.

I loved that the groomer always remembered our dog and what he liked and what he didn't, and which of his legs he didn't like to be touched so she'd be extra careful with it.

Default Dog Groomer

We have a spaniel/poodle cross (we call them spoodles) who needs to be groomed often. He has very thick and soft apricot curls (all ladies would love to have hair like him). I have found that the best groomers are the ones that absolutely adore dogs - we have a lovely lady who knows our dogs well, remembers all about them and is genuinely happy to see them. Of course, the groomer is also very skilled, caring and takes the time to get the cut done beautifully. As a result, our dogs are so happy to see her - its like a party!
all the best
Janet

Being passionate about what you do AND having compassion for those you work with (human and pet) are traits of someone worthy of doing business with in ANY profession.

A person who has a PASSION for what they do will always strive to learn more. Enjoys going to work. Looks for new ways to be more efficient. Is always challenging themselves to do better. Would probably do their job even if it didn't pay.

A person with COMPASSION would never do anything to cause harm. Always considers the welfare of others (human or animals). Puts self last. Is devoted. GIVES back.
