Aww! That's too bad that your dog doesn't like getting their nails trimmed. I used to have one that would go crazy when I clipped his nails. He tried to pull his paw from me & I accidently cut too close & made him bleed! I felt really bad, but he sat still from then on. LOL It has the opposite effect on a lot of dogs though. The dogs I have now sit really still & just let me clip & file the nails. I even get to paint them sometimes. LOL But I only use clear polish for the white nails to help strengthen them.

My dog hates to have her nails cut also. You all just rememinded me that she needs her nails trimmed again. I'll try some of the things in this thread to see if it helps.

I just clipped all my dog's nails, filed & painted them. They don't really like the filing part. My husband sits & pets them while I do their nails. Maybe that's why my dogs don't mind having their nails done.

LOL Well, I only use clear nail polish. I only so it because 2 of my dogs have the clear(white) nails & they split easily. I've heard a lot of people that have Pit Bulls with the light nails have this problem. Using nail polish helps to strengthen the nails so they don't split. I really don't like the look of dogs with painted nails. LOL That's why I use clear.

The way to keep your dogs nails in check is to road walk them on a regular basis. That way, hopefully, you won't need to clip them very often.

It also a good idea to give them a good walk after clipping the nails so it files them down and neatens off the rough edges.

When you get a new puppy or even older dog, try to handle its feet on a regular basis. In fact make it stand still and handle it all over.
It's for no good reason than to teach the dog to be managed when it gets older.

Badly behaved dogs are a pain in the backside for vets and dog groomers alike.
