I saw the ads for this product and noticed them using it on Yorkie and Maltese hair and thought "oh no no no!" Makes sense to use it on dogs who truly do have fur i.e. a coat like a German Shepherd or a Lab but any dog with hair like an Afghan would be a definete no no.

The Furminator is just a 40 blade with the cutter removed, and inserted into a handle. Groomers have been carding dogs with a 40 blade for years. The handle just makes it easier on your hands.

I've also found that it does a really good job of teasing out those tight little pin mats on drop coated breeds like Yorkies. I didn't believe it when another groomer suggested it, but tried it anyway. Hey what! It works!

On some dogs, like Labs, I think a ZoomGroom works better.

No matter where you look it will cost at least $30. It is the BEST comb out there, well worth the money. If anyone has seen the commercial for it, it shows the dogs and cats surrounded by hair, that is not an exaggeration! When I first brushed my dog with it I was able to fill up a small trash bin.

Default similiar for less

I bought a Furminator. Got it at a good price on e-Bay, then saw it cheaper at my vet clinic! I use it a bit, but I'm not convinced that I like how it works. I think it will work great for some and not so great for others. I agree that having variety of brushes is the best thing.
There are similar products out there that do the same thing for less money. I've seen them for as little as $15.00. The less expensive one has a handle attached at the same angle as a comb, and is featured on a TV infomercial. It can be found in pet supply stores as well. For you Cannucks, I think I saw it at Canadian Tire.

Default No magic cure

I have a Furminator, and also other shedding tools. The Furminator is no magic cure! Lets face it, whatever you do; Furminator, slicker brush, shedding bar, shedding rake, rubber brush followed by stiff bristle brush; you are going to have to do it regularly, every day or at least twice a week! I think the Furminator can do more damage than other shedding tools on certain coat types, or if used incorrectly.
I find it takes longer to use the Furminator than other tools.

I found a cheaper knockoff of the "Ferminator." My wife and I got it at Target and it works just fine. I think it was called the "D-Shedder." Cost was about $20.

We use it on our chihuahua who sheds like crazy. I don't know if it is just this time of year or if they shed this bad all the time. Does anyone know about that? Mojo is the first chihuahua that I have ever been around this much.

Okay folks, maybe you read my post about Natural Balance trying to threaten my 'mom & pop' store because my prices were too low, right?

Now the fine folks at Furmanator are doing the exact same thing. They say our online prices are way too low, I'm not kidding. This is a result of the larger chain retail stores (the same ones that sell live animals) pressuring these manufacturers to ensure that these larger companies have the lowest prices. Unfair for you the consumers!! Read more here: Furminator Says Our Prices Too Low!!
