Default Do you cook for your dog?

I got a wonderful dog recipes e-book from eBay one month ago. I tried some of the recipes there. My "babies" loved everything I cooked. Now, I don’t feed them a lot of commercial food.

I tried baking for them too. I tried liver-chip cookie and cheese biscuit. Ooooh…they loved it. I think they love me more now.

So the adage "the shortest way to a man's heart is through his stomach" also applies to our pet dogs huh, yeah, they feel more loved when extra care and attention are being given to them and the good thing is, you can feel that they really appreciate what you're doing to them, sometimes better than humans can do.

This is the first time I've ever heard of cooking for the dog.

I've done it for my dogs several times. They love it. My babies aren't too fond of liver, but they love the peanut butter/apple cookies and the plain dog biscuits made with bacon grease or real butter. Or give them a small round apple to play with and eat. I've got one that likes bananas and prefers them to be good and ripe! Most of them like grated squash in their food.

Hint: When you cook meat for your dogs or even when you use uncooked meat, add garlic. It's good for their hearts and it helps repel fleas. And they love the flavor!

I'm really interested in this. I've thought about it in the past actually, but never got into it. I'm going to start looking for some books/sites for recipes. When I find something my dog really likes, I'll post them.

Garlic hasmany benefits for dogs, if only fed in small portions. I believe the standard for a 50 pound dog is 1 clove per day, which is safe and beneficial. You are right though, it can be harmful if given more than that amount.

Garlic like a lot of other things if 'over-done' can be harmful/even deadly to your dog. I give my 2 dogs (for many years) a clove of garlic every other day to every day--pulverize along with the raw veggies I feed with their raw meat supper meal. Since it is suppose to keep the fleas/mosquitoes away I am for sure going to feed it everyday during this season!! No more poisonous commercial things for my already overloaded with poisonous 'things' 11 and 12 yr. old dogs!!!! Garlic is good for the dogs for many other things also---just use in moderation. It is for sure that I feel the meds given for fleas and mosquitoes are much more dangerous and they get more dangerous in many cases the more it builds up in the dog over time.
Not to be one-sided on the subject--Here are a couple links to check out:
