Default flea collar in the winter?

should my dog wear a flea collar during the winter months?
or is it only a seasonal thing to wear a collar (or use anti-flea treatment)?

I am curious as to why you would put a flea collar on your dog during the winter when there is no chance of a flea infestation..unless your house has fleas and its just easier to keep the flea collar on then to treat the house, but I'm sure that's not the case since fleas bite people and its very bad for us to wear flea collars And that's been proven... our boys in the military in Iraq and other desert settings were wearing flea collars around their ankles to keep the sand fleas away and had bad reactions to it! Kinda worries me what it would do to my dog...

But I wouldn't suggest using it during the winter when you shouldn't need it. i would also look into sprinkling your pups food with garlic and brewers yeast, it helps ward off fleas in a more natural way...I've never had to use flea collars or shampoo on any dogs I've ever had, and I've lived in Florida

Unless you live in a warm climate in the winter, your dog probably doesn't need a flea collar. The chemicals in the flea collar aren't very good for your pet. I recommend the flea and parasite regimen at Pet Medicine Chest. I haven't used it on my dog because fleas haven't been a problem. I have used it for my cats. The main flea treatment is diatomaceous earth. You sprinkle it on their coats and on their food.

Must admit I don't use collars at all as I believe that the chemicals are not good to have next to the skin for long periods. I just wait until the tell tale signs appear and treat with a hypo allergenic shampoo which seems to have worked for our dogs.
