Default dry vs. canned...

I've been feeding my very picky eater dry food (which has been grounded, because that's the only way she will eat it) mixed with canned. Is it okay to feed just canned? I've heard that just feeding canned isn't good for a dog's teeth. However, my dog's not really getting the benefits of the dry food to clean her teeth because it's grounded into crumbs. Please tell me your views on the subject because I was thinking of just giving her canned. Thanks.

I don't know a ton on this subject, but everything I've read says to use primarily dry. Also IMO there is a reason vets only sell dry food.

Canned food only is fine. While it does often result in tarter buildup at a faster rate than dry food, dry food does not prevent tarter. Brushing your dogs teeth and providing plenty of safe chews is the best way to maintain oral health regardless of whether you feed dry or canned food.

The smell of canned food drives me away.

I was wondering this too, cuz my last dog we fed canned his whole life but this time they recommended dry..
but we already bought the pedigree healthy start which is available in cans I guess if we ever wanted to switch

I don't know; I don't think I have ever used canned food. That makes sense though that if you faithfully brush their teeth (which I will admit I do not do), that it would mitigate the tartar problem.

I'd go for a mixture with more canned food as a treat, rather than the norm - for dog teeth and good dog health you need to recreate that sense of breaking bones, which they would do in the wild.

I would suggest a variety. Don't just stick with one form of feeding. I just think that we like variety in our diet and think dogs are the same. I would also suggest some raw meat as well.
