Dog food allergy suspected
I was doing some research to find out why my dog keeps digging at her nose and chewing on her feet. I suspected it might be caused but something in our carpet or a cleaning chemical I used on the floor but was surprised to find out that food allergies are a common cause of excessive scratching, hair loss, hot spots and infections in both cats and dogs.
The most likely ingredients to cause this type of problem are beef, dairy products, chicken, wheat, chicken eggs, corn, and soy. As you may have noticed, the most common offenders are the most common ingredients in dog foods.
Since we have recently removed the carpet (Nona had a little to much of a taste for it) and she continues to scratch and chew I have made an appointment to discuss a potential allergy with out vet.
On a side note for those who pet has a skin infection that initially responds to treatment and then return a food allergy should be suspected.

What tyoe of dog food do you feed your dog?
What type of dog food do you feed your dog? There are tons of allergens in a lot of the dog foods commonly available at the grocery store.
If you haven't already have you though about switching your dogs food?
we had the same problem with our little girl and we switched food and things got a lot better. We also took her to the vet to treat her paws which he gave her an antiboitic as she had been chewing on them so much they were infected.

We had the same problem with ours (chewed the hair off, bad/raw rashes, etc). We switched to Life's Abundance (healthyfitpets.com) because we were told by a friend to try it for 30 days (since they have a money back guarantee, and we'd already spent $500 at the vet). Cleared up within two weeks. She's been on the food, and skin/coat supplement ever since (two years now) with no more steroids or other treatments needed.
Even if you're not interested in this specific food, there is an informative video on the site that will help you when choosing a different food, to know what to look for, and what you especially DON"T want to see.

Corn and wheat are allergens that make a lot of dogs itchy and cause numerous other problems.
