Has anyone ever owned or adopted a deaf dog? If so what was your experience? Did you have to use special training techniques or security measure to keep your pet safe?

There is a deaf young dog, in need of a home, at our local shelter and we are giving consideration to adopting it but don't want to go into the process ill-informed.
