My dog has kidney failure
I took him to teh vet yesterday, and they said he has kidney failure, they will let me know which type when the blood tests come back, but either way, the vet said he WILL die. He is an 8 year old border terrier, he drinks alot of water, and still eats normally, but he urinates all the time, even in the house, and sometimes when he is laying down in his bed, it is as if he doesnt know he is doing it sometimes. Anyways, i was just wondering is there any treatments out there that can helphim, and also is kidney transplant a viable option, money is not a problem, I will do anything. if there is no cure, arethere certain foods he should and should not eat.....or since he does not have long left can he just eat whatever he wants....
Also if anyone has had a dog with Kidney failure can you let me know how it went?

I am sorry to hear about your dog. I do not know, if there is anything that can be done, besides maybe an IV that can be admisastered from home. I just wanted to say, sorry to hear and I hope that you can be given hope. Not much but I am sincere!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend's condition. I have just lost mine only a few days ago due to the same problem. I am glad to see that your vetinary was good enough to inform you of the severity, I nor my friend was not so lucky. My only suggestion is to contact your vet and others to answer your question. In the meantime cherish them and make their time here the best it can be. Our time together was shorter then expected. I wish I knew differntly. I know this is not uplifting but I do not want ot see someone else wish they spent more quality time with their loyal loving friend. Spoil them rotten , a toy a day and treats, make sure each day when you leave them home that you give them a proper goodbye and your love.It can happen so fast. Best wishes.

I am sorry to hear that your dog is not well, but there are some things you can do to enhance the quality of life he may have left with you and perhaps prolong his time.
First of all, change his diet. Feed him a very simple, low animal protein diet. Personally, I'm not a big fan of these diets, but for kidney dogs, they can mean months to YEARS more time with you.
Make sure he gets plenty of water and stays hydrated. Kidney failure dogs tend to dehydrate easily and some vets will teach you how to do sub-q fluids at home to keep them well hydrated. This is vital with kidney dogs.
Keep him as active as you can. That helps to keep the metabolism up which aids in organ function.
All hope is not lost, but you will have to face the hard times eventually. Just don't give up to easily.

Kidney problems
Sorry to hear your dog is unwell.
The last post gave you some good advice.
The best you can do is focus on nutrition - it can do good and will do no harm.
Good fresh food, lots of filtered water, and nutritional supplements
You need vitamins and antioxidants, flax seed oil.
There is a lot of information on the internet about natural remedies for pets (just like for humans). I am a firm believer in this, and have seen some great results.
Let me know if you would like more details and I would be happy to provide information for you
All the best
Janet
