Hi. I have a female boxer that just had a litter of 9 puppies on Monday. I noticed yesterday moning that her top lip which is nornal black is bright pink. It's not really swollen that I can tell and she's eating and drinking fine. It looks like the black has "rubbed" off. It does look a little irritated...like a rug burn or something, though it doesn't seem to be bothersome to her. I was wondering if it could be from licking up after the pups? We did have to use "Wonder Dust" to stop the bleeding on some of the pups. I'm thinking maybe that's what has irritated her?? Anyone else hear of anything like this before? Any suggestions on what to do for her? I did try putting an ointment on it but she licks it off. Thx.

Yes, it is most likely from licking the pups. Years ago, our GSD Princess had 8 pups, and her tongue was raw from licking. I do not know what the vet said, but it worked. Maybe you could call yours for advice. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but that was about 12 years ago. Memory is going you know.

Hi all. Thanks for the responses. I did call the vet yesterday morning and he said I could bring her in if I wanted to(they always say that-don't want to be held responsible I guess if something was really wrong). I don't think that it's that serious. We live about 30 miles from town and with that many pups and how long it would take to get there and back(not to mention the waiting at the vet) and I have a 18 month old home too...I thought I'd see if it was normal and if there was a home remedy first. I have been applying an ointment and I'm hoping one of these times she'll forget it and leave it on(lol). Her chin is looking a little raw now too but her lip isn't any worse so...I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again.
