Question Vaginal Hyperplasia??

Hi. I have a female boxer that is due to deliver on Sunday. When I was taking her temp this morning(100.5) I noticed that her vulva was really swollen and seemed kinda "hard". I lifted it a little and noticed a pink mass of tissue. I took her to the vet and he said that it may be "vaginal hyperplasia" but that she would be able to deliver the pups fine and it should go away after that. If not then we can discuss what to do then.??? I've never had any experience with this and don't know of anyone who has. I'm very worried about her whelping with this. I was wondering if anyone else has anything to share. I'd greatly appreciate it. I know the vet's not worried but I AM!! It's my dog...not his. lol. Thx.

While I've not personally experienced this, a breeder friend of mine has with her bitch. Every time she is in season the hyperplasia is present so she is artifically inseminated. When she is due to whelp, she has had scheduled C-sections. Maybe to be on the safe side, have a vet handy in case you have to opt for a section, or, just schedule it.

Good luck.

Yikes! That sounds more serious than the vet implied. Maybe you should get a second opinion? If you are breeding purebred dogs to sell and there is a genetic predisposition for this condition perhaps you should consider retiring and spaying her so that you aren't passing on genetic problems to other pet owners.

My girl just had a litter on saturday the 23, and she had the same thing like 2 days before she gave birth..... The Vet said it was normal and it went away after she had the pups.....
