Help! What's Wrong with My Dog?!!!
Something just isn't right. A few days ago, we noticed my 9 year-old male English Springer Spaniel, Cooper, began having unusual behaviorial changes overnight. His symptoms were: restlessness, unable to sleep because of, little appetite, unable to go up and down stairs, unable to get up and get down from bed, not interested in "let's go" or "chicken" for example which can usually turn his select hearing to the on position! He looked to be in some sort of pain.
So, we're off to the first emergency vet clinic where Cooper miraculously does a 180 for the vet technician. Regardless, she examines him and finds "a non-painful, symmetrically enlarged prostrate, which is normal finding in older intact male dogs. Mild temperature, bloodwork showed a mild decrease in white blood cell count (WBC 2.7), urinalysis is currently pending. Abdominal radiographs supported finding of enlarged prostate. Abdominal ultrasound was performed and showed a symetrically enlarged, hyperechoic (bright) prostate (which was not alarming given that he is intact.) All other finding were normal/negative." And so Cooper was discharged after they saw that he was eating and drinking well and very energetic.
Cooper comes home and he's right back where he started, in pain and not himself. We take him to the second emergency vet clinic. Now we have completed the following procedures: abdominal radiographs, abdominal ultrasound, fecal, bloodwork, urinalysis. They gave him a shot of oxymorphone and sent him home with metacam. He did great on the oxymorphone of course but didn't eat last night and hasn't yet today/tonight. Please if anyone has anything to offer in the way of advice or suggestions, please PLEASE let us know!
