My dog is the same way and she is a little over 1 year old. She won't run around the house or play with her toys, she just likes to sit and chill a lot. She will run around when we take her outside though. So maybe it's just his personality. If you're really worried, I would ask your vet.

My St. Bernard isnt realy active either, he would prefer to curl up with the cat and sleep all day! he will play with my other dog, once in a while, but not too often!
heres my dog in his favorite position with the cat!

Some dogs just don't need alot of activity to stay healthy. If you walk him at least once a day and play with him. (so he has to at least run around a bit).. then everything should be fine. Still.. if he just lays around most of the time, it could just seem that he is good health. Take him to the vet and have him get looked over. It could just be that he's a lazy dog ^_^.. but you would want to make sure.

I would not think so, but ask your vet.

its probably a good thing. you dont want something as large as an akita jumping over furniture the way a jack russell does
Disagree and Agree

My 80# White German Shepherd (3.5 yrs) tears through the house every morning, afternoon, and evening (we say she's exercising). She jumps over kids, furniture, springboards off the couch (usually with my toddler in high pursuit), etc. Surprisingly, she doesn't knock stuff over and send things flying. Apparently, she feels the house is her "personal agility course". And yes, she does the same outside too. Just a quick burst of about 5 minutes per time, then she'll flop and relax for a while. Sounds like a herd of cattle going through.

Being laid back is fine; but they shouldn't be listless ALL the time. If your dog NEVER has energy to do something, then I would have him checked out. Otherwise, count your blessings!!!

What activity do you do with him? Tell me more about him and I will help you find something that will stimulate him more.
