Question Slimming down my fat dog

Hi,
I recently gave a home to a lovely cavalier king charles spaniel named Maisy, she is two and quite overweight.

I feed them on a natural diet. I have cut down her portions now for about two months and have seen little improvement. She is my MOST active dog as well! She is out on her own accord, not laying around like the other dogs. I don't get it. I have started feeding her on her own in case she is stealing food from the others. She has quite a lot of excess skin as well, this has shown a little improvement. I was told she hasn't had a litter (i'm a little skeptical) I haven't quite decided about breeding yet, I am mostly decided not to, I rescued her from a bad situation and therefore think the damage done cannot be repaired. She is an excellent example of the breed, has good lineage and has a wonderful temperment but I didn't get her to breed her, I got her to give her a better home. Will getting her fixed help her slim down? (I guess really i have decided not to breed her)

I give her about 1 cup mince (special dog mince with animal organs and high fat content) and a raw meaty bone, then give her another raw meaty bone late in the day.

I am not sure if I need to cut that down further?

Any suggestions? If you need more info, please ask I will try and check daily.
Thanks!
Amy

You may want to cut back more on your mince. Slowly, to 1/2 cup a day. You may have to give 1/4 cup in the A.M. and again in the P.M. The meaty bones I would continue with for now.
Physical exercise done with you, can help build her muscle and tighten the skin alittle, tire her out at least once a day, both mentally, and physically, and she may not beg for food as often otherwize.
Good luck, like with people it is harder to take it off then it is to put it on!

Welcome to the forum!!!

Have you seen a vet, could she have Thyroid problems? If she is a active dog, and her food has been cut back for a while now, this might be her problem. Simple medication can easily fix this problem. Good luck!
