Default Dry or wet food?

When I first got my dog the breeder told me that I should give her dry food as it is better for them. After about six months she wouldn't eat so we decided to try her on canned food and she has been on it ever since.Do you feed your dog dry or canned food?

I feed my dog a mix of dry & canned as she will not eat dry food alone, she never has done as this is what we tried her on when we first got her.

So we gave in & introduced canned food.

Why is dry better for them? I've never understood why people have said this.

I feed natural Balance Dry food with about 2 tablespoons full of NB canned mixed in with 1 cup of dry. My dog loves it.

Whats is the best food to start puppies on?

dry or wet food?

I thought dry food would maybe be a bit hard for them, were as wet is a lot softer?

What do you think puppies should be started on?

I would go with whatever you plan to feed in the future. If you start a puppy on canned only it might be difficult to switch over to dry food later on.

Many puppy foods are designed for tiny teeth and small mouths so that it isn't so difficult for them to chew.

My toy poodle ate a diet of canned food only for about a year and he did very well on it. I was able to switch him over to dry food eventually though.

My dogs eat mainly dry food but I do give them a little canned food as a separate meal every once in a while.

Canned food, IMO, often has better ingredients than dry and the additional moisture makes it more digestible.

I try to feed my dog both. If he don't eat the dry food when its offered to him, I dont get worried. When he gets hungry he will eat it. I don't have any problems with giving my dog dry or wet food.

Our dogs eat dry food only... but about once a week, I fry up some meat and pour the grease over their food. If I don't feel like frying up meat for the grease, then I'll give them some raw eggs. The grease and eggs are both used as a treat, but I know the eggs are good for their fur too.

When we adopted our Scottish Terrier, the owners said 'Oh he only likes the really cheap food like Purina, with water and ketchup..you gott aput kethcup or he wont eat it".

I was a bit mortified.

So we've switched him over to Natural balance, which he eats just fine and wolfed down the first time we gave it to him, WITHOUT ketchup I might add. Sometimes as treats we get that doggie gravey, or I just add some hot water and brewers yeast to it and he likes that as well
