Default Dog Health Problems?

My dog cross between a border collie and a lurcher who is 8years old and normally very active has been very tired the past few days and not doing muchI went out with him today and threw him a ball however he would not go down the step in the garden and just sat looking at me, i then threw it up to see if he would go after it when there was no step and he half ran towards it then sat down and then lay down.He started shaking, like having spasms and wouldn't go up the step to get back in the house so i carried him in and laid him down, he has been moving somewhat and tries to get up when i go to him and gives me his paw.He doesn't seem to be in any noticable pain, he isn't whimpering but his breathing is quite heavy and he starts shaking whenever someones goes close to him.We are taking him to the vet when it opens in an hour but i would appreciate any help here and does it sound like a serious problem, thanks.

Here's a couple of websites you can check out. They should point you in the right direction when at the vet's office. Good luck, hope it helps.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your dog. I had a cocker a few years back and your explanation is exactly what I went through. We never found out what it was but he had a few minutes like this a couple of times a month. I am sure he is not in pain and all you can do is be there for him which I know you are.
BAck then I thought it was some kind of epilepsy. I am sure he will be fine soon.
