I am currently trying to save a puppy that was abandoned by its mom. I saw the puppies for the first time about 24 hours after they were born. We thought there were only 2 puppies, but the next morning (About 36 hours after birth) we found that the mother had moved one puppy underneath the blanket. We tried to get the puppy to eat, but the mom would just pick it up and move it everytime we tried. I have been hand feeding it for the since yesterday at about 9:00...but there seem to be some problems...

*He hasn't deficated since yesterday afternoon, even though I've been wiping his genitals with a warm, wet cotton ball.

*He has been able to urinate, but the last few times, it's been a little red...

*Every few hours or so, his whole body goes completely rigid for 10-15 seconds, then he relaxes, and starts to pant.

I know that it is unrealistic to think that I can make him survive, but I just wouldn't feel good about myself unless I tried everything. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Any chance that he will make it?
