Default Last week I posted a question regarding a health issue with my 13 year

old dog.I took her to the vet The? The vet wanted to hospitalize her to run some test.He gave me an estimate of cost,he said it would cost $25.00 each day to be hospitalized and gave me a list of things he wanted to test on her.$570.00 was the qoute I recieved. She was there for 4 days.If they feeel they need to do more test, don't they have to notify mefor approval before they perform them to get my approval?they only time they said anything out of the estimate was they wanted to do some x-rays and I had to call them to check her status and I agreed when I picked my dog up last Friday,my bill went from $570.00 to $891.00 The print out on the first estimate listed everything they were going to do to diagnose the problem. She was hospitalized at $25.00 a day which equals $100.00.They charged me $300.00 for the four days. When I called the vet,he said he had to do a rectal exam which was not listed on the itemized statement he gave me.I have to believe more test were done without my approval.is that legal?

This is kinda touchy hu? You care for the dog . but you dont wont to go broke . Talk to the vet , the dog is also 13years old. you can always got your dogs records and find a new vet

I do feel bad for your dog, but businesses, from garages, landscapers, contracters, and doctors, get by with outrageous add-on cost by coming back to the old"it was an estimate, not a set amount." They generally get away with that crap. Sometimes you might have some chance of negotiating the price down on something, it is worth a shot. Please know that I am not making light of your situation, but I have to say if I knew that I could get $300 for doing a rectal on a dog, I would have have been examining 2 at a time, one with each hand.
