Default Need Advice Gastroenteritis

Hi everyone, I have a 7 year old lab who presented with vomiting on Tues (7/10). Long story short, FB obstruction has been ruled out by Barium and x-ray and she is on Flagyl 2 large pills BID. She is very lethargic, not really eating ANYTHING, and not drinking. She still vomits her water and I am trying to mix a little water and pedialyte in a syringe to give a little at the time so she won't throw it up. I'm having a very hard time dosing her with the Flagyl as they are big and she wants nothing to do with them (which I can understand as she hasn't really eaten since Monday). The vet says it is probably just viral, she was kennelled two days last week. Does anyone know if Flagyl can be dissolved in water and given orally, also anyone have any tips on keeping her hydrated so we don't have to run back to the vet in the morning, and has anyone ever heard of a virus lasting 4+ days in dogs like this? Sorry so long and thanks everyone, she's is one sick girl,

Ali

Default gastrointeritis

hi..i have an 8 year old boston terrier who normally is very healthy. Back in october he became ill, vomiting and diaharrea. I've had him back to the vet twice. First they thought it was a bowel obstruction, then the vet diagnosed him with gastrointeritis but he is still sick. I took him back to the vet last monday. The vet believes he has irritable bowel disease and they have him on a special diet of Prescription Diet ZD (can and dry dog food), strict diet, no treats. They also prescribed prednisone and a powder to sprinkle on his food to help with the diaharrea. He's lost a lot of weight and you can see his ribs. He at first would not eat or drink water. He has stopped vomiting but they say it will not fix overnight it will take time. Sounds like what you are going thru.
