The problem I have with these criticisms is that my childhood dogs ate purina and survived 12-15 years each. My neighbors dogs were fed the same stuff found at the grocery. I've known any dog owners who only bought food not found at the grocery store.
So what's the catch? If only 100 animals in the U.S. die of eating grocery store dog food, I'll take my chances. I bet more dogs die each year of trees falling on them than food poisoning.
It's not that I don't care about my dog, I'm just a skeptic and not one to panic if there are a few isolated cases of bad food. |
It's not so much that dogs will
die. It's pretty much the exact same thing as people recommending other people to eat organic- it's just healthier for the dog to eat organic as well. Store brand food tends to have more preservatives. Just like people do better eating natural food without addictives, dogs do as well.
Not to say a dog can't be healthy eating commercial dog food. They definitely can. There's just a lot more health benefits to feeding dogs a natural diet.
This is especially true for dogs with health issues and skin conditions.
Here's a good site that explains a lot more about the benefits of feeding dogs natural food:
