Hi there
Blue buffalo is a 4 star product- see Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for full review and compare against other brands. I checked it out and it has a good ingredient list. There are several types of food to choose from. Is this for a puppy or adult dog? Are you making a change and what from?
GOOD LUCK

I wouldn't feed this food to my DOG!
I introduced Blue Senior chicken and rice to my 11 yo yellow lab in February 2009. He took to it right away, avoiding his old brand, but he, as many commenters have noted, developed flatulence. Flatulence occurs when a food does not break down completely in the stomach and small intestine. As this progressed, he began to avoid the food and, when he reluctantly did eat it, developed frequent bouts of abdominal pain and cramping. I also observed that his stools had become larger, which might be indicative of incomplete digestion. I met a Blue rep at Petsmart and related all this to her. She responded by saying something like, "Well, some people tolerate broccoli and some don't!" That day in mid-April I discontinued Blue and introduced Nutro Natural Senior, which like Blue has chicken as its primary ingredient. It has been well tolerated, has none of the side effects, and produces a smaller stool. There are Blue users that put up with the gas, excusing it away ("purging the system", "getting used to it", etc.), but after two months I found no justification to feed this to my dog.

I have been a dog owner all my life and over the many years have tried many foods... Pro Plan, Nutro, Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Prairie, the list goes on and on... Blue Buffalo is leaps and bounds better then any of the other foods I have fed. The dogs look amazing, they digest it really well, no gas, no bad breath, amazing coats, great muscle tone, they all stay in top show condition on this food with no additional supplements. I raise all my puppies on it as well and have had great success!
I recommend it 110% !!!!!!

My dog has been on Blue Buffalo for a year and a half. I tried several other brands before and this is the only food that agrees with her. I don't know why other dogs don't like the lifesource bits but my dog loves them. Since she's been on this food, she has less gas, firm stool, and a nice shiny coat. She is currently on the small breed formula. I've looked for other brands to rotate with, but can't find anything else that I would want to get at Petsmart.

Anyone who will listen
please please please get your dogs off nutro and science diet they both kill dogs by shortening life span the dogs may seem normal and still have energy but youll notice the coats are dull and dogs will live 2-4 years shorter on poor quality foods like these brand, even the prescription diets made by hills are very poor quality foods. Ive worked in pet stores for 3 years now and ive met several science diet reps who have told me that they do give vets money to prescribe and recommend there foods please do yourselves and your dogs a favor and get your dogs off of these foods. if you think im just a crazy person see for yourself at dogfoodanalysis.com

And I'll bet these reps give money to the many vets who sell this crap--Science Diet--too!!! I'll go a step further and say I'd like to see all commercial dog 'food' GONE!! I know it will never happen but, I'd love to see all dogs on a raw food diet or a home-cooked diet. Dogs are suppose to live about 10 yrs. longer then they do. Guess why they don't!!! You are not crazy, BUT YOU ARE SMART!!

After reading these posts, I looked up Blue Buffalo on the net. The ingredients seem excellent! I'm not sure if it is available in Canada but, I'm going to look for it. The only thing that concerns me is, there seems to be an excess of protein in the food. I'd be looking for the kibble since my girls get one home cooked meal every day. Any thoughts on the amount of protein? How much is too much?

Just found this on the net! Wish it didn't have the sentence that states grains as being assimilated (esp. corn and soy) by dogs!
Protein Requirements and Meat Diets for Dogs and Cats in ThePetCenter.com
Some pretty interesting info here though!!

O.k. That puts my fears to rest. I'll look for the Blue Buffalo dry. I hope it's available in Canada...

If you live in canada look for orijen dog food like that article says dogs can digest large amounts of protein and orijen is a meat based diet with no grain its ranked one of the best foods you can feed your dog and although when you look at the price you might flinch a little bit in the long run you end up feeding less and your dog lives longer for that 10-15 extra bucks.(orijens based in canada so its probably easy to find).

we switched our 3 year old golden over to blue buffalo last year when he developed an allergy problem. (Fish and Sweet Potato variety) Since we switched there has been a tremendous difference in his quality of life. He no longer has scratching issues or droopy eyes. This is high quality dog food with no fillers and you will notice the difference in their stool, lower quantity and different consistency. All of their food has meat as the first ingredient as opposed to the usual yellow corn. As far as taste goes he absolutely loves it and whenever his dog friends come over they attack the stuff trying to rip into the bags! We could not be happier with blue buffalo - its definitely been worth the cost for us!

Thanks for the great link.
This is all very true, and corresponds to all that I have read and know about protein intake as well.
It is the corn and grains that are the problem!
thanks again,.

Blue Buffalo- Thumbs Up!
We feed our two dogs (Beau, a 3-year-old Boxer/American bulldog Mix, and Bacchus, a 10-month-old Weim) blue Buffalo and we love the results it has given our dogs! We feed the puppy the large puppy formula. Their coats are so shiny and they have so much energy. I am a competative runner so it's important that our Weim puppy, Bacchus have energy and be in good health to endure running with me, and he has just that. I have never taken him out for a run or walk without someone commenting on what a beautiful dog he is, everywhere I go. He looks very fit and the sheen on his coat is very noticible. Our Boxer, Beau, has a very sensitive tummy and we switched him from his special formula to Blue Buffalo and have seen improvement. Both dogs do suffer from flatulence though, but I can't tell if this is due to the food or not (Beau had this problem before feeding him Blue Buffalo and Bacchus is still a puppy with a developing tummy).
Overall, it probably depends on the dog itself, but we have had very good results with both of ours and they love the food!

No two dogs the same
One dog gets gas, one doesn't. One dog loves the taste, and another dog doesn't. I have had my 8 year old golden on Solid Gold, Innova, California Natural, New Balance, and for 4 months some rabbit limited diet from Royal Canine, that my vet convinced me to use. I saw no difference in the dogs gas level, enjoyment of the food, nor her skin allergy reaction. This dog can down a live bunny when caught, in 3 bites,(while being yelled at), with no stomach upset, nor gas, nor change in her stool, while my sons lab so much as eats a doggy ice cream, and he has mud butt for 3 days. What bothers one dog, may be perfectly acceptable for another, and does not make the product unfit for dogs as long as it contains the correct ingredients for good nutrition.
