Default Overweight Corgi's, Help needed

Hi there, I have a problem, maybe you could help? We have two corgi's both female and both have been spayed and both over weight. We have them on expensive weight control food, nutro ultra weight control. Both dogs get plenty of exercise up to 2 miles a day walking and lots of play time in the house and outside. We have reduced the portions down to 1 cup a day but both dogs seem hungry all the time. What should I do to help them lose weight without being so hungry all the time?

Thank you in advance,

David

try feeding them twice a day & then a little snack before bed to help keep their glucose levels up during the nite.

mix some fresh green beans, carrots or apple slices in with their food. this gives volume without calories these things can be used as treats too, altho not much per day.

since Nutro is so secretive with their ingredients I can't find them & of course they have several kinds of "ultra" but see if the first ingredient is rice. often when you look at the ingredients on these "diet" foods you are better off with the regular

I would suggest finding a higher quality food. The main reason being that when an overweight dog is put on a food like Nutro, they are getting a lot of grains and fillers instead of real nutrition. Then when the portions are becomming smaller and smaller, your dogs are being starved of nutrition and being fed grains which they cannot digest and are carbs. When dogs are on lower quality foods, they will eat more because the grains and fillers in the food do nothing and they need to eat more to become full. This is why they seem hungry all the time, their bodies cannot utilize what is being given. I reccomend Innova EVO, Canidae (they also have a weight management formula), Wellness, Orijen and there are so many good foods out there. This way they will be getting more nutrition and less carbs. And all the food they are getting they can actually use so they will not seem so hungry.
