Thumbs down Another Question about Dog Food

This is the first dog I have owned, so I have lots to learn. She is a beautiful dog and I want to keep her that way. She weighs 4 1/2 pounds and is perfectly proportioned.

I know some months ago, there was a scandal about dog food, but since I did not own a dog, I did not pay much heed to it.

Right now, I have been feeding my poodle Innova at the suggestion of the breeder. It is an expensive food. Do any of you have suggestions for alternative food that is not quite so expensive, but good for the dog?

well again i don't know much about the little dogs or if you're feeding her dry or wet dog food... but if you're going for dry i would think that iams, pedigree or purina one would be good choices...i know everyone wants to give their pets the best money can buy but sometimes our budgets just don't allow that to happen... i know those 3 brands are pretty reasonable and they do have formulas for small breeds

steph I just have to jump in on this one. Purina makes some of the very worst foods on earth. they are full of corn, wheat & soy, by products, rendered products & artificial dyes & preservatives. Pedigree is very close behind & Iams is not a good food by any means. here is some excellent info for learning about ingredients in dog food.

Dog Feeding Info

you can also google "natura" & learn a lot, especially on the compare tab

swtpoo, Innova is good food, however, no food is the best food for every dog. my dogs got very hard dry stools from it & now my one dog has anal gland problems that he never had in the 5 years I had him.

check the price on California Natural, or Canidae. Nutro Ultra is sold in pet stores & is holistic too. Nutro has 3 grades - Max, Natural Choice & Ultra

one good rule of thumb is never buy dog food in the grocery store or WM
