Default Anyone know what I can do?

My bordercollie is a little over a year old. She has been getting me up in the night for the last two nights because she has diarrea. What could I do for her? Any suggestions?

the first thing to do is figure out what is causing it.

have you changed any of her food? is she on any new medication? did she get into the trash? is she completely vaccinated?

start giving her some yogurt every couple days. canned pumpkin ( not pie filling ) or pepto bismol will work but check with your vet for proper dosage & follow up

she has one more booster shot to get but were told to wait a month after her last two, i guess there are three of them to get and she had two. I've never heard of giving them yogurt but ok i can try that. Does it matter if its flavored? What does that do? Thanks!

the yogurt will help boost the good bacteria in the intestinal tract. I would use the plain unless you know she likes a particular fruit.

have you changed food recently? what are you feeding her?

I've been feeding her iams since we got her, I've never changed her food. Now a day or two before she got diarrhea I did give her a steak not a very big one and it was well done thats why i gave it to her. I only have flavored yogurt so i will give her that but how much do you suggest?

the flavored won't hurt her, its just that she may turn her nose up at it.

a couple tablespoons a day for several days may help her

if she is not accustomed to table food, that may have done it.

canned pumpkin ( not the pie filling ) works for both diarrhea AND constipation. I have no idea why or how, I just know it does.

I would give her several heaping T's. if you have a lot left, put it in a ziplock & pat it flat & freeze. or put some canned milk in it, nuke & enjoy!

I went out right away and bought some for her as well as plain yogurt. I did a search on it and it said that for treating constipation it softens the stool and the reason it works for diarrhea is because of the dietary fibre in it, it helps absorb water, so ya makes sense to me. Apparently its supposed to work in as little as a few hours, that is so great! Now you did say I should know what caused the diarrhea so do you think if this clears it up for now and a little later she was to get it back, then it should be looked into? If she doesn't get it back then I guess I can say something didn't agree with her? Thank you for guiding me in the right direction

yes, you may have to give her a couple doses of the pumpkin - if it stops but then comes back probably time for the vet. altho Iams isn't the best & yes it could cause problems after a time. which one are you using?
