Default Does anybody know?

Does anyone know if a dog can be given gravol or pepto-bismol for diarrea. Just for the time being until able to see a vet??? If so how much can they have?

I would be reluctant to give anything like this unless it is under specific vet instruction. Whilst these over the counter meds may help us, it does not mean that they are going to be effective or even safe for an animal.

Remember, that symptoms of gastric upset are a bodys natural defence and way to despell bugs that may be upsetting or unbalancing a gut. You would be better off untill getting into the vet, to withold food. Given that your dog will probably be loosing more fluid than usual, provide regular but small ammounts of water to prevent dehydration, but dont allow large quantaties at one time as it may increase discomfort in the belly.

I agree with nattie, it would be safer to withhold food for 24 hours (with small frequent drinks of water) than to dose him with pepto.

After 24 hours try a very small amount of food, but if the problem is still there, go back to water for another few hours. Keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't show any signs of dehydration or serious lethargy. I'd also keep him away from other dogs or places where they go until he's better or you know what's causing it. How long til he see's the vet?

In a few days. I have been giving her rice and hamburg a few times a day as well as pumpkin. Its supposed to be easy on her stomach and good for diahrrea. I think she might of got into something, maybe rhubarb. I found some in the backyard and looked like she might have eaten some of the leaves but not 100 percent sure.

I think it would be a lot safer if you withhold food for 24 hours than giving your dog something that you are not sure of. You dont know if giving that to your dog will be effective unless if your vet told you that it's ok to give them to your dogs temporarily.
